The first annual Gulf Coast Bonsai is open anyone to sell their bonsai material. If you would like to put something in the sale, please a picture to lowelltilley@gmail.com. These picture of some trees that will be for sale:
The Gulf Coast Bonsai Foundation has been organized to develop a world renowned bonsai exhibit with collection of bonsai to attract visitors from all over the world and have educational events to develop the commercial value of bonsai art and hobby. Provide visitors with a better awareness, understanding, and appreciation of natural and improved environments. Insure that bonsai specimen can be passed on from one generation to the next.
The
first Gulf Coast Bonsai Fall Bonsai Sale will be Saturday, November 1, 10:00 to
3:00, at the River Oaks Baptist Church, 14959 Old Hammond Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA
70816. It will be to sell or buy any bonsai plants, equipment, supplies,
tools, etc. To assist members in developing their own private collection
and support the Gulf Coast Bonsai public displays of bonsai.
Several
members have Gulf Coast Bonsai plants they are developing and caring for.
Most of the plants were worth very little when they started developing them, so
they can purchase them for their own collection, bring them to the sale, or put
them into the public display. They name their own purchase price to
purchase them for their own collection. In some cases, they may want to
continue developing them longer so they will sell for more or look better on
the display.
Like
most plant sales in Baton Rouge, each seller will have a table or share table
and will manage his own sales giving 10% of the gross to the Gulf Coast Bonsai
Foundation. The Gulf Coast Bonsai will have a table manned by
volunteers. The tables will be covered by nice looking plastic covers to
protect the tables. We want to attract and assist as many bonsai
enthusiasts as possible, so we have invited Byron Myrick, Dennis Burke, Bill
Butler, and Underhill Bonsai to sell bonsai tools and accessories.
Underhill Bonsai said they don't have enough staff to participate. Each
seller will set his own price and sometimes it is difficult to find a price
that will sell and compensate the seller enough. Developing bonsai is a
lot of work and fun and it is not easy to determine the exact amount of work
and the amount of fun it was. So how much should I sell
the bonsai for? I plan to set prices on some things, and some things
will have a price or best offer. In other words, negotiating on prices is
acceptable.
We
would like to say how much we appreciate the members who are taking care of
Gulf Coast Bonsai plants and you can purchase any of them for your own
collections for the price you decide. Please send descriptions of each to John
Nackley, jnackley@gmail.com, who is working on the inventory.
Please
send a picture and description of anything you plan to bring to the sale to
Wyler Murray who is creating a catalog to help bring more people to the
sale. Also please send us any comments, questions, and suggestions.
We need your input and will have another planning committee meeting soon.
Please contact us if you have any
suggestions or questions.
